The three-hour drive took us into, through, and up out of the Great Rift Valley. We drove by the road to RVA but didn't get to go see where Kathy and brother Joe attended (and where Joe taught).
Along the side of the road, we saw lots of animals. Baboons, zebras, Thompson gazelles, donkeys (some pulling carts), and scads and scads of cattle and goats being watched by herdsmen and children.
We arrived at Nakuru and had lunch at a restaraunt while waiting for our hosts to the boys ministry. Jane Lang'at, Pastor Sammy Mwai, Jane's daughter Mercy, and David came and joined us. Martha, Mercy, Sam and I snuck out to a street market to pick up some knick-knacks. Boy, was that a lot of pressure to buy!! You really have to be a tough customer to not buy stuff you don't need and at higher than you'd want to pay prices. One guy actually put a necklace on Sam and said "650 please".
After that, we packe up and headed to see Pastor Sammy's street boys ministry. We got to see their fairly new place that had 20 boys and can accomodate 50. We got to see their material needs too, such as a place in their rooms to put their clothing.
We passed out some clothing we'd brought as well as 8 or so soccer balls and basket balls. What a hit that was! The boys have been praying specifically that God would provide balls for them. I caught a cool clip of them singing together to us, but I don't think I can upload it from my phone. (bet you didn't know we were blogging all from an iPhone and a bluetooth keyboard!).
We then said goodbye, and headed to Kericho. On the way, Jane Lang'at took about 10 minutes to explain her project in Salgaa, where she researches and interviews girls and women stuck in prostitution. We drove right through the brothel area (right on the main road), and those made my shed look like a 5-star hotel. Sadly, the streets were lined with big rig trucks on both sides, some just double parked. This all during the daytime.
We finally arrived at Ivy's Inn (formerly TeaVale Guesthouse, for those of you following along with the itinerary), settled, and ate dinner. After dinner, Sam and I worked on our devotions, typed the blog, and forgot to save it. (!). So you're reading the second version.
We wish you well and hope that all is fine back home.
Jon and Sam
